Although hard to believe, City CU started with only $50 in deposits in1942, which was the minimum amount required to obtain a Credit Union Charter from the State of Texas. The first official meeting of the City CU took place on August 24, 1942 in the Central Council Chamber of the old City Hall. It was decided that the Board of Directors would consist of nine members, with the Supervisory committee consisting of three members. Operations began in a small cubbyhole in the basement of the old City Hall in the Police Detail room. The credit union soon outgrew the space and was moved to the fourth floor of the old City Hall shortly thereafter. The first financial statement was completed on August 31, 1942. Loans outstanding totaled $100; total cash was $1,712.17 and assets totaled $1,812.17.
Led by President and CEO Sharon Moore, City CU has grown to over $270 million in assets, over 100 associates, and branches in Dallas, Cooke, and Ellis counties. Moore has been with the credit union since 2004 after a long career as a credit union examiner and owner of her own consulting company.
