For 75 years, Frontier Nursing University (FNU), with its heart in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, has educated nursing and midwifery leaders who have touched the lives of children and families across the nation and around the globe. Today, FNU is a premier nursing university preparing more nurse-midwives and nurse practitioners than any other school in the country. These nurses and midwives carry out FNU’s mission every day by providing primary care to women and families with an emphasis on rural and underserved populations.
Through innovative distance education programs, FNU makes graduate-level education accessible to nurses in rural and underserved areas. Registered nurses can become nurse-midwives, family nurse practitioners or women’s health care nurse practitioners by completing coursework online and clinical experiences in their own communities. FNU offers Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees as well as Post-Master’s Certificates through its distance programs.
